Cornus kousa 'Akatsuki'
This cultivar of Korean dogwood is probably the best of the variegated foliage cultivars. The flowers, really bracts, start out white then turn pink with a white center over a few weeks time. These showy bracts cover the tree in mid spring over dramatic variegated leaves of green with a wide border of white. The tree will be 6-8 ft tall in 10 years, and does well in full sun or part shade. In fall strawberry-like fruits develop attracting birds, and are eaten keeping the ground clean. Useful as a small yard tree or patio tree.
