Commonly called Wintergreen, but also known as Teaberry and Boxberry, this groundcover is native to North America. But this new brightly colored cultivar ‘Winter Splash’ is variegated with white, green, and pink colors year-round. Then, in summer the bright red berries decorate the plant, adding even more sparkle. The cinnamon red stems have exfoliating bark, but are less noticeable with the brightly colored leaves and berries. One plant will be 8-10 inches tall and can spread to 4-6 ft. Very valuable for lighting up a shady corner in your garden. Likes evenly moist, well drained soil and some shade in locations with hotter summers. Hardy to zone 3.
