Tsuga mertensiana 'Sherwood Compact'

Tsuga mertensiana 'Sherwood Compact'

Tsuga mertensiana, the mountain hemlock, is native to the western mountains from California up into Alaska and British Columbia.

This cultivar is useful for a smaller garden. Growing to 4 ft x 4 ft in 10 years, this form will have a weeping look with sparkling new foliage in the spring. A long lived cultivar that can easily live over 50 years and need little care. Planting with lots of barky organic humus will insure good drainage, which this one needs to stay happy. Rarely needs pruning, and will be an excellent candidate for a 'stand alone' specimen. Hardy to zone 4.
