Officially known as Cercidiphyllum japonicum 'Rotfuch', but commonly known as the Red Fox Katsura Tree, this wonderful deep purple-red foliage tree is a winner. 'Red Fox' will grow smaller than the species, with estimates of 12-15 ft in 10 years. The leaves are especially lovely when backlit by sun and have contrasting yellow-green veining and tiny white marginal teeth. The leaf color fades to a bluish green in mid-summer before finally changing to gold, orange and red in fall. Plant with contrasting light foliage plants for a knock-your-socks-off display. In the fall when the foliage turns colors, there is a fragrance of roasting marshmallows in the air!
