R. fortunei

A very desirable species from China. This large growing rhododendron species is both HIGHLY FRAGRANT and HARDY. We also love the foliage as it has many attractive qualities...large and smooth with purple petioles, giving it a distinctive look. Also, this species is one of the parents of the famous LODERI grex of plants, including LODERI KING GEORGE ! Being hardier than most will also make it heat tolerant as well. This species was used by Charles O. Dexter back in the early 1900's to create many famous hardy fragrant rhododendron hybrids.

Rare Variety – This variety is difficult to find anywhere due to these reasons
·       Hard to propagate – many cultivars do not root easily from cuttings, but at a reduced rate thus making the plant rare.
·       Hard to find – these cultivars are hard to find in the first place, probably because they are hard to root from cuttings
