If you are looking for a good 'ground cover pine', look no further. The Scotch pine will cover the ground over time, choking out weeds and adding a texture and dark-blue-green color that really stands out. If the central leader is cut out, an 'octopus-like' structure will result, adding interest. After 10 years, the plant can be 6 ft wide but only 1 ft tall. This cultivar originated as a seedling selected by the H.A. Albyn Nursery in the 1960's. Over time the bark can become very 'craggy', a quality that is treasured among conifer collectors.
