Pinus densiflora 'Rainbow'

Coming out of a batch of seedlings of Pinus densiflora 'Oculus Draconis', this bushy selection has dramatic banding of cream, gold over green. There are reports that the variegation is better when the climate is hot in the daytime, and cool at night when the needles extend from their fascicles. In very cold climates, the variegation will have a reddish cast. Growing 4-6 inches per year puts this one in the dwarf category, and will be 4-5 ft tall in 10 years. Hardy to USDA zone 5. Selected in the 1990's by John Emery of New South Wales, Australia.
