Extra large flowers, often 10 inches in diameter have red-purple on the outside while the inside is white with a hint of pink. A fantastic combination. The hybridizer, Frank Gaylon of Knoxville, TN created his masterpiece by crossing Magnolia x soulangeana 'Deep Purple Dream' with Magnolia 'Paul Cook'. Besides the outstanding flower, the tree is fast-growing, becoming a 30 ft tall tree over time. The foliage in summer is dark green and glossy and is disease resistant. Blooming is in early spring, March-April, which is beneficial to avoid frost. The flowers have FRAGRANCE and attract bees.
