Juniperus communis 'Arnold'
Famous for its slim, columnar habit makes this juniper very useful where a 'spire' is needed. We always recommend using this shape when most plants are squat and mounding, creating contrast in the landscape. Sometimes this cultivar is used as a substitute for the Italian Cypress, when a smaller plant than the cypress is wanted. This juniper is hardy to zone 3, so can be useful when a Mediterranean look is desired in a cold climate. Our specimen has rarely need any pruning to keep it slim, but once in a while an odd branch needs to be clipped off. This cultivar was found in the Arnold Arboretum, thus the name.
