Green Leaf Seedling
With its delicate foliage, small crown, and naturally artistic form, this tree creates an oriental effect in any garden. Fall colors are inspiring in their brilliance. With their refined character, specimen trees of this type are always in short supply. The species name alludes to the lobed leaves resembling a hand, and this tree from Japan, Korea and China has produced more than 1,000 cultivars; it is by far the most prolific of all maples. Performance is best in rich, moist but well-drained loams with shelter from drying or freezing winds. Under cultivation, this species reaches approximately 20 ft. The 5-7 lobed leaves usually turn yellow, amber, crimson and purple (sometimes all on the same tree) in autumn.
