Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea Nana'
Growing at the slow rate of 2-3 inches per year allows this cousin to the large growing purple beach fit into most any garden. The glossy dark-purple foliage is a wonderful foil to any bright accent plant with contrasting colors. We planted the almost white Japanese Forest Grass 'Albo Striata' in front of our specimen, and the 'black & white' look is stunning! Although it is deciduous, the leaves are on for more than 6 months, giving it super value in the landscape. Hardy to zone 4.
