No doubt the most desirable smoke tree is Cotinus coggygria 'Grace. The ovate to obovate Eucalyptus-like leaves are much larger than the species, or other cultivars, and they shade from a blue-green color at the base to red on the tips. In fall the color turns to deep red to orange...very fiery. At Halloween they are at their peak of fall color and make great decorations for the holiday. In the spring they produce smoke-like pink flower "puffs" that cover the tree and last over a month! This tree will grow to 6 ft tall in 10 years but will eventually be 10 ft tall. Not deer resistant. Hardy to zone 4.
