Arthur Johnson

This vigorous taller growing evergreen shrub is slightly scented, with a creamy-tipped mid green foliage spring. Then, from early winter to mid spring long racemes of magenta-pink flowers cover the plant...such a long flowering plant. As the flowers mature, the color deepens to heliotrope. Easy to grow, requiring little care once established, and perfect at smothering weeds. Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for its outstanding qualities. Grows 30 inches tall and 30 inches across over time. Best in full sun. Produces nectar that attracts bees on mild winter days but is ignored by deer. Hardy to zone 5.
