A larger growing Japanese maple that sports yellow-green leaves with red lobe tips in the spring, making it have a very unique look. By summer the leaves have shaded to a medium green, then in the fall a orange-red color. Each leaf has a rounded shape with seven shallow serrate lobes. The Japanese translation of Satsuki beni is "red month of May", which is confusing as the leaves are not red in May. Nevertheless, this cultivar is very showy and even has colorful winged seed structures in summer.
